The charges brought against Alfonzo Dennard for drinking and driving, then refusing to take a breathalyzer have officially been dropped. Dennard will have additional time on probation on top of the probation he’s already serving due to a separate incident where he got into an altercation with a police officer.
Alfonzo pleaded a ‘no contest’ in refusing to take a breathalyzer and took a plea deal after two days in a Nebraska courtroom.
Dennard is also going through a minor knee injury, but Patriots fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Dennard will not miss any time this season due to the law. The Patriots need the starting cornerback on this thin secondary and to cover the other team’s number two option, which are often times the options that produce the most.
This kid has already been on probation twice though so it could spell a deeper problem whenever he gets around alcohol. I wouldn’t mind if the kid threw a party at his house and stayed there, but he seems to want to take it to an extreme. His decision-making while drinking is obviously an issue that the team needs to get ahold of before he hurts someone or himself.
Dennard needs to realize, whether he likes it or not, he’s in the spotlight and people are counting on him to be on the field and to be an example to younger generations. He’s acted like a dope, but luckily for him it’s not too late to right the ship.
