The Buffalo Bills have just announced that their starting quarterback EJ Manuel did not respond well to treatment and will sit out Sunday against the Patriots as they try to clinch a first round bye. Thad Lewis will be taking Manuel’s place under center.
EJ Manuel has started in 10 of the 15 games so far for the Buffalo Bills, but suffered a knee injury and hasn’t responded well to the treatment. The Bills are looking long term with Manuel and not forcing it and that’s probably smart on their part. Manuel went 4-6 in his 10 games throwing almost 2,000 yards with a 58% completion rate.
Thad Lewis steps in as he’s gone 2-3 in his five games with a completion percentage of 60%. Lewis is also a little banged up as he’s working with an injured left shoulder, but took all the reps Thursday and is ready to go against the Patriots.
As I mentioned before, this game is important for the Patriots to secure the first round bye and at least one home game in the playoffs. With a Patriots win, and a Denver loss, the Patriots could even become the number one seed and have home field throughout the entire playoffs.
