Unlike the recent optimism with Dennis Seidenberg possibly returning to game action by the playoffs, there has always been an optimism surrounding another Bruins defenseman, Adam McQuaid.

Optimism is now fading as McQuaid is still reportedly not close to returning after a quad injury he suffered back in January against the Chicago Blackhawks. McQuaid missed another skate around, and was not among the eight defenseman in Wednesday’s practice:

“No, nothing,” Julien said when asked about McQuaid. “He’s still working out off-ice, but he hasn’t been on the ice yet.”

McQuaid suffered a set-back in early march in which the team opted to shut him down for three weeks and with the three weeks being up now, and him still not skating, it seems to be a grim picture.

McQuaid, who is on his second consecutive injury plagued season, has scored one goal and has six points in 30 games this season. He is a good veteran guy that the Bruins would like to have as a strong, big defender come playoff time.
