Giancarlo Stanton was struck in the face by an 88 MPH pitch on Thursday night from Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers. The scene was one of horror as he was carted off the field and taken to a nearby hospital where he will receive a CT Scan and X-Rays according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post.
the 24-year old Stanton was in the running for MVP, hitting .287 with 37 homeruns and 105 RBI’s and has generated interest from nearly every team, including the Boston Red Sox. The Marlins are reported to have big plans to resign him to the biggest deal in team history, but as history generally repeats itself, it’s also plausible to think he’ll be moved.
The Marlins are 12 games back in their division with just 17 games to go in the season so Stanton will likely be shelved for the rest of the season.
