Another season and another major trade made by Danny Ainge. I was hoping to never see this day come as Rajon Rondo has been traded to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday afternoon. This is sadly the business aspect of the game and it’s going to feel very weird going to the TD Garden on Friday night when the Celtics take on the Minnesota Timberwolves and not seeing Rondo walk through the doors. Unless the NBA decides to veto the trade like they have in the past, Rondo will be playing in a new uniform and making the Mavericks an unstoppable force in the Western Conference. Here is the full description of the biggest blockbuster trade so far this season:

Mavericks Get:

G Rajon Rondo

F Dwight Powell

Celtics Get:

G Jameer Nelson

F Jae Crowder

F/C Brandon Wright

2015 Conditional 1st Round Pick

2016 2nd Round Pick

$12.9 Million Trade Exception

The Celtics have also released center Vitor Faverani after the trade was finalized to make room for all of the acquisitions. The Celtics will eat up the rest of his $2.1 million contract for this season and the next year on his contract was non-guaranteed. Faverani is still pending charges in Spain after he caused an accident drunk driving.

Bottom line is that the Celtics did receive a lot in the trade, but Rajon Rondo is non-replaceable and he will be very missed here in Boston. It’s been a huge honor to have Rondo here over the years and I will never forget his will to win with all of his flashy plays.
